Dear Watch Member,
Christmas is almost upon us, and I wanted to take an opportunity to introduce myself to those of you on our amazing OWL network and thank you for your interest and support.
Since I arrived in Hertfordshire in October, I have travelled around the county talking with colleagues, partners and volunteers about how we can work together to tackle crime and safeguard the vulnerable.
I am particularly impressed that 25 per cent of households in the county have signed up to OWL and that the network is used in such a proactive way.
OWL celebrated its tenth anniversary this year and I was amazed to learn that, to date, more than 142 million emails have been sent via OWL regarding 130,000 incidents, issues and events. My sincere thanks for the role you have all played in making OWL so successful.
There clearly is an appetite for Hertfordshire residents to maintain close links with the Constabulary which leads me on to a direct appeal. You may not be surprised to learn that in 2017 there will be a major drive to recruit more Special Constables and enlist the help of members of the public into our family of volunteers.
Our volunteers perform an amazing service in a variety of roles which they find both rewarding and stimulating. If you have spare time and would like to be part of our continued success story more formally then do please consider a role as a volunteer or Special Constable.
Information about these key areas of activity can be found on our website www.herts.police.uk
Finally, on behalf of my Chief Officer colleagues, I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.
Best wishes
Charlie Hall
Chief Constable
